Football or Basketball…or Baseball/Softball? You tell us.
Central Indiana
A few weeks ago, we ran a poll on our Web site, www.vype.com, asking you to vote on what is Indiana’s favorite high school sport, between the choices of football, basketball, baseball/softball.
The results, quite simply, were a little staggering.
Football walked away from this unscientific sample as the big winner, garnering nearly 67 percent of the vote. Is it really all that surprising that football won... More

You know that feeling you get when you glance at the calendar and actually realize what day it is? Not just looking at the date to see if your schedule is in line – but actually realizing what the exact date is?
Well, I’ve got that feeling.
Folks, it is June. June.
Where did that come from? One minute we’re grabbing a hoody in anticipation... More

Fresh
Central Indiana
When I think May, I think fresh.
The air is fresh. The pristine green grass is fresh. The burgers, steaks and shish kabobs coming off the grill are fresh.
What great thoughts, right? Well, we here at HSSTM think so.
In this month’s issue, we did our best to be fresh. We’re trying some new things in the pages ahead, just like most issues as we learn and grow,... More

Central Indiana
Exactly one year ago, HSSTM launched this publication to Central Indiana.
And in that time, we’ve covered everything from basketball, baseball, softball and track to soccer, swimming, racing and rowing.
Exactly one year ago in this space, if you’ll recall, we shared our vision: capturing and defining the lasting impressions of high school sports – those moments frozen in time that are uniquely shared by us... More

A Letter From The Editor
Central Indiana
Madness.
Complete madness.
Normally you don’t wish for such a thing. But this is March, when madness is welcome.
In fact, we long for it. We dream about this time of year, when the bread and butter of Indiana high school sports is on its biggest stage.
We eat it. We sleep it. We take it in.
We lose sleep. We gain... More

Pregame
Central Indiana
A somewhat decent quote, right?
Perhaps you’re even wondering who said it.
Well, it was me. I always thought February was an underrated month and has been egregiously disregarded, seen as somewhat, oh…dreary.
In fact, I came up with my own quote in large part because I read this one a few days ago:
“February is merely as long as is needed to pass... More

Pregame
Central Indiana
Growing up, the holidays and sports simply went hand-in-hand.
For many of you reading this, it’s still certainly the case. Trying to travel and have an extended period of time away from teammates and coaches, let alone a day or two, is tough when you’re a winter athlete. Holiday tournaments and invitationals are about as common as New Year’s resolutions these days.
But I’m talking more about the... More

“Thanksgiving dinners take 18 hours to prepare. They are consumed in 12 minutes. Halftimes take 12 minutes. This is not coincidence.” – Erma Bombeck
Quite possibly, truer words were never spoken. You know the drill at Thanksgiving…and Christmas…and New Year’s. If there’s one certainty, it’s that we love to watch sports and we love to eat. And over the next 60 days, which feature the aforementioned mammoth holidays, we’re... More

A Letter From The Editor
Central Indiana
If you were to ask your friends and family, say, what their favorite month is, chances are you wouldn’t get October for an answer very often.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s easy to see how October could get lost in the mix: the reality of brisk temperatures sets in, the shuffle of homework, athletics and/or other activities becomes routine – and let’s face it, it’s still a... More
